What time is sunset today? Or sunrise tomorrow? When is the "magic hour" next March 20 in Paris? With Sol, you can check times and get reminders of solar events, at home or while traveling! Great for everyone looking to plan activities based on sunlight. Use it to remind you to walk the dog before dark, get up with the sun, or find golden hour time for that perfect photo.

Sol: Sun Clock is the Swiss-army knife of sunlight tools with a design inspired by the simplicity of the sundial. Use it to plan your day, guide natural sleep cycles, get the best light for outdoor photography, make sure animals or kids are safe inside before dark, or to map out the best times to go running or fishing.

* Be in tune: Sol will tell you when the golden hour is, how much sunlight you have left in the day or what time the next sunrise occurs.

* Look to the future, travel around the world: Sol lets you find sunlight information for any date, anywhere on earth.

* Find solar midnight and solar noon, and all three twilight (dawn and dusk) periods: astronomical twilight, nautical twilight, and civil twilight. Keep tabs on the next solstice and equinox.

* Reminders and Alarms: Use Sol as a natural alarm clock that you can set to any event (like sunset, golden hour or solar noon), and the alarm or reminder time will adjust gradually as the days change with the seasons.

* Automatic Location: Sol not only calculates the amount of daylight and sunrise and sunset times, but does so for any location in the world (both Northern and Southern hemispheres) by using your devices GPS... no network connection required.

* Other locations: Optionally, use the built-in map to choose any location in the world by moving the pin, or search using the name of any city.

* Optional location-aware alarms. Sol knows when you change with your location; and as you travel it will adjust any alarms you set relative to sunrise and sunset times. Create alarms for multiple locations around the world.

* Detailed almanac information: Useful information about the days length, suns azimuth and elevation, equinoxes and solstices, and a friendly glossary that explains all the terms.

Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. However, GPS runs in the background ONLY if you have set location-aware alarms.

Pros and cons of Sol: Sun Clock app for iPhone and iPad

Sol: Sun Clock app good for

Although there are many apps that will give you the position of the sun, this one is nice in that it packs it all in one easy-to-read screen, allowing you to see how much daylight you have with a quick glance. The figures are there is you want them, but if you just need a rough idea of how far along you are in the day, or when the sun will be low enough for golden hour, etc., this app is great.
Nothing to add. This is app is perfect. Special feature: Its possible to set alarms for the different periods, also with offset. This app is wonderful for astronomers, photographers and romantics.
i like the app! please connect with apple-watch and everything is perfect!
Very nice visualization, good alarm functions. The only app that lets me set an exact alarm for twilight (not only sunset)! One drawback: Apparently the app queries the location continuously while it is open. This produces unnecessary battery drain; one short location check when the app opens would be sufficient. Of course, you can disable the access to Location Services in the preferences, but then you get ugly message pop-ups when you tap the Reset icon.
Very useful and easy to use. Does exactly as advertised! Well worth the money for any photographer, golfer, fisher, hunter, etc
I set an alarm for the afternoon golden hour (just before sunset). Its a great time for an evening walk & I know Im not going to miss the sunset or be out after it starts to get dark. Thanks!

Some bad moments

If you want to see an App crash for no reason, this is for you! Waste of time...
Animation looks nice but lack of practical data such as sunrise sunset direction. Waste of money
I tried testing it for sunrise in Oslo, Norway. It came up with 22.12 or 10.12pm! Whether it referred to the local time at mypresent location in the US it did not specify. I wanted a simple way of checking sunset and sunrise. This was a total waste of money! It will be removed from my iPhone immediately. Having to calculate the time myself was definitely not my intention when buying it!
its not a one swipe turn off. i have to unlock my phone, open the app, and wait for a pop up so that i can tap "ok". even if you just open the app, it will not turn off. nobody else can turn it off if your phone is locked, so my loved ones hate this app more than i do. if you leave your phone, you will come back to a drained battery, and anything important like missed calls are lost in several alarm notifications.
I have the alarm set for sunrise and sunset. 80% of the time the alarm works. I dont hear the alert nor is there a notification in the notification screen. For that I only give it ⭐️⭐️ until it gets fixed. I also have a free app that alerts me 100% of the time but is no longer supported or in the App Store. Thats why I got this app. Im a little disappointed. Especially since I paid money for it
The ancients had calendar systems that were based on cosmic cycles. Our modern calendar and time-keeping system is totally out of harmony with nature. As a consequence, our minds also get out of harmony with nature. With this app, you can be alerted to natural cycles. Its wonderful.
